Lynda Jones joins field running for General Sessions judgeship

Add another candidate to the field running for the open Davidson County General Sessions Court judgeship.

Lynda Jones says on her Facebook page (where she goes by her married name, Lynda Jones Kenigson) that she’s pursuing the seat left open by the death last week of Judge Leon Ruben.

“My phone has been ringing off the hook for weeks now,” Jones wrote Tuesday morning. “It started at 4:00 a.m. today already. I decided NOT (to) apply for Judge (Barbara) Haynes vacant (Circuit Court) seat but I WILL apply for Judge Ruben’s vacant seat. I am humbled by the show of support.”

Jones, 47, unsuccessfully sought a place on the General Sessions bench in 2006, losing in the Democratic primary to Angie Blackshear Dalton.

“I’m running because my 20-year legal career has been built upon serving lower and middle income individuals and small businesses. … A judgeship is a way to blend my legal training and experience with community dedication,” she said in response to a question about her reasons for running.

Jones, a bankruptcy and DUI attorney who represented rapper Young Buck for a few months, joins former Councilman Mike Jameson and Metro attorney Doug Sloan in the race, which will be decided by the council next month.
